How could this be? There are several faktors at play here. According to a WSJ report, analysts have called out Rivian's engineering practices for making vehicle production too costly. Rivian wanted to make sure the R1T performed better in jatuh tests than other vehicles in its class. However, that meant adding more metal which increases costs and weight.


The report also cites current and former employees that say that Rivian's skateboard chassis is "complicated to assemble," and some tempats of the chassis need to be welded twice: once by a robot and again by hand. Furthermore, costs tend to go down per vehicle as production is scaled up, but Rivian just isn't at that tingkat yet. In Q2 2023, Rivian only produced 13,992 vehicles keseluruhan.
